Maddie's battle with Osteosarcoma
"It was like being hit by a train and the news just kept getting worse and worse"
In September, Maddie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, aged just 14. Maddie had hoped of becoming a Royal Navy warfare officer, although Maddie's life may have taken a turn she is dreaming big with a new goal of competing in the Paralympics.
Maddie has had a really difficult journey, on top of suffering horrors of treatment, on October 28th Maddie's femur snapped as she stood brushing her teeth at the sink upstairs. "She was on the bathroom floor just screaming and her leg was at a different angle. We knew it was broken – there was no two ways about it."
Her mum and dad have shared Maddie's brave story to help raise awareness of osteosarcoma.
Willberry has been so proud to be working with Maddie's family to fulfill Maddie's Willberry Wish of a 'Tack Room makeover', the weather has been a little unhelpful so it is a little ongoing! We cannot wait for Maddie to see her new Tack Room and be back with her horses. We have had some amazing help from companies who are local to Willberry and his rwam and hope that everything Willberry has done will help Maddie be able to care for her ponies whilst also providing somewhere warm and snug retreat to have a cuppa.
Willberry knows all to well that osteosarcoma is a devastating disease - but with his research projects ongoing to date he's making his hoof shaped impact. But this is just the beginning - lets work together keep #kickingcancersbutt.
